Sofia Alvarez – Web3 Culture & Adoption Editor
I’m Sofia Alvarez, a Web3 culture and adoption editor originally from Mexico City, now based in Miami. I studied Journalism and Media Studies at the University of Texas at Austin and started my career covering startups and emerging tech in Latin America. A story on cross‑border remittances introduced me to Bitcoin almost a decade ago, and I have been following the human side of crypto ever since.
My strength is storytelling around real people using crypto: builders, artists, gamers, DAO contributors, and communities experimenting with new economic models. I cover NFTs, gaming, social tokens, DAOs, and grassroots crypto adoption, with a particular focus on underrepresented regions and voices. Over the years, I’ve reported from hackathons, meetups, and crypto conferences across the Americas, telling stories about how digital assets are reshaping finance, art, and online identity.
In my writing, readers can expect a balance of enthusiasm and critical thinking. I am excited about what permissionless technologies can unlock, but I am equally committed to highlighting risks, scams, and social consequences. My goal is to make Web3 understandable and relatable without diluting its complexity or ignoring its challenges. When I’m off deadline, I am usually exploring new NFT projects, mentoring young journalists, or hunting for the best coffee in whatever city the next conference takes me to.
